From the archives: Taking Hannah Spicer’s messaging from freelancer vibes to agency-owner authority
When Hannah reached out to me last year, I was so excited to support her as she made the leap from solo freelancer to agency owner.
She’s a Klaviyo email marketing consultant with a stack of brilliant brands under her belt – and her business had evolved fast. She had a new visual brand identity, updated services, pricing and processes and a fast-growing team. She needed website copy that could keep up. Something that reflected the shift from company-of-one to confident agency lead.
Fun fact: this wasn’t our first rodeo. Hannah and I first crossed paths back in 2019 when we were both consulting for Crabtree & Evelyn. Then, a few years later, she booked a Copy Clinic with me to polish up her DIY website copy around 2022. This project felt like a full-circle moment – and it was amazing to witness how far her business had come.
Hannah’s one of those people who manages to be both deeply knowledgeable and totally approachable. So that’s what we wanted the new messaging to do too: show her authority, without losing her warmth (while weaving in some key SEO terms to get her on the radar for ecommerce businesses using Klaviyo for their email marketing).
Here’s what she said about the process:
“I'd recently made the transition from solo freelancer to agency owner, and needed an expert copywriter to completely overhaul my website to reflect this change. I'd worked with Emma before so she was my first port of call.
I now feel proud to send prospective clients to my website. It feels much more professional and on brand, as well as still feeling like me (now us) in tone. It's easier for visitors to my site to understand what I do, but also the VALUE in what I do, which is so important.
Emma made the whole process very easy and stress-free. She kept me up to date on progress during the project and delivered in every way possible. I had very few edits to her first draft. If you're thinking about working with Emma, just do it! Get the task off your plate, and on to an expert's – the investment is so worth it.”
And, here are some of my favourite copy moments from the new site.
