Blending in is the fastest way to selling nothing. And a shocking amount of businesses are totally skipping over the opportunity to craft a tone of voice that builds trust and brand recognition. 

If I had a pound for every time I ask a well-known brand for their tone of voice document, and hear "We don’t have one, but I can send you our brand guidelines!" I’d… probably be working a lot less and enjoying a lot more Champagne breakfasts.

My 6/8-week copywriting process

Say we’ve hopped on a discovery call, I’ve sent you my quote and you’re happy with it… job’s a goodun etc, etc. What happens next?

  • PHASE ONE

    Project Kick Off

    Once everything is Contract Kosher and we’ve decided to run off laughing into the copywriting sunset together in the rom-com that will never get made, I'll send my Brand Messaging Questionnaire to you. This is your non-negotiable homework. Woooo. FUN! Set aside around 60 mins to complete this. Once received, it’s over to me and you can go back to doing all the other things you do so well.

  • PHASE TWO

    Your Sneak Preview

    I’ll start putting all my thoughts to paper, researching your target audience, playing around with copy and finalising a sneak peek. I'll send this to you ahead of sharing the first draft – you don't need to provide comprehensive feedback at this stage, just give me a rough steer that it's moving in the right direction.

  • PHASE THREE

    First Draft & Feedback

    For the next couple of weeks, I’ll be balls-deep in your brand, your voice and your copy. You'll receive a link to a Google Doc and see what magic I've worked up from heavily stalking your Instagram, clients and LinkedIn. From here you’ll have 14 days to feed back any edits required via the comments function in the Google Doc. This is how we’ll communicate changes and ideas at this stage of the process and is your opportunity to really critique what I've done to make sure the next stage is perfect for you.

  • PHASE FOUR

    Handover

    Over the next week or so, I'll capture your edits and send over the completed copy doc ready for you to use. If there are any teeny tiny changes you'd still like to make, I'm happy to jump in and do them before I officially hand the document over to you. It’s yours! Put it live and sing my praises loud and clear, or act like you wrote it all yourself. You do you.

A heads up on timeframes. 

My lead times are generally 6-8 weeks from initial enquiry to project kick-off. And no, putting “Yesterday, lol” or “ASAP!!!” as your desired completion date doesn’t get you bumped up the list. It might get you blacklisted, though… 

Basically, if you’ve got a launch or a set deadline in mind, get in touch sooner rather than later. I hate turning away perfect-fit clients just because they left it too late. Sad face.
